Golden Haiku 2020

…a short poem that uses imagistic language to convey an experience. – Haiku Society of America

Calling all poets and aspiring poets, from around the world and around the corner!

The Golden Triangle Business Improvement District is proud to announce its 7th annual Golden Haiku literary competition. Award-winning haiku entries, along with dozens of honorable mentions, will be featured in tree boxes along some of DC’s most iconic streets early next year. The colorful signs will brighten the winter landscape as spring arrives creating a magical experience for thousands to enjoy.

Inspired by our community’s passion for urban sustainability and environmental consciousness, the theme for 2020 is “Bees, Trees, and City Streets.” This fall, the Golden Triangle became the first business improvement district in the world to be named a LEED-certified community by the U.S. Green Building Council. We invite you to highlight the beauty of nature while avoiding political statements or foul language.

The annual haiku contest draws entries from across the country and around the globe. In 2019, we received nearly 2,000 submissions from 50 countries and 41 states and the District of Columbia. Entries are judged by a distinguished panel of published haiku experts.
