Previously located at 800 17th Street NW

Created by artist Mischell Riley, Maya’s Mind features a cast 20-foot bust of the late Maya Angelou set upon a stack of books. An audio component reads excerpts of Angelou’s work Still I Rise with the books illuminated by a soft red and green glow. Maya’s Mind is the first in a series of monuments to women that Riley is creating, with future plans for Jane Goodall and Amelia Earhart sculptures. Riley is based in Carson City, NV and is known for creating larger-than-life sculptures with a rugged finish that makes them look ancient within the landscape that surrounds Burning Man.
