WASHINGTON, D.C.–March 17, 2016–In this tumultuous election year, these well-known lines will soon echo again through the nation’s capital, just blocks from the White House:
“You all think I’m licked. Well, I’m not licked, and I’m gonna stay right here and fight for this lost cause.”
Jimmy Stewart made the dialogue famous in his starring role in the revered film “Mr. Smith Goes to Washington.”
This summer, the Golden Triangle Business Improvement District (www.goldentriangledc.com) will bring Mr. Smith back to Washington along with nine other films during its Golden Cinema event.
Each Friday, from May 20 to July 22, the Golden Triangle will show movies that fit the theme “Hail to the Chief” in honor of the presidential election.
Film-goers are encouraged to bring a blanket and enjoy the following free entertainment that will start at sunset at Farragut Square Park at 17th and K Streets:
- May 20: “American President”
- May 27: “Mr. Smith Goes to Washington”
- June 3: “Mars Attacks!”
- June 10: “Dave”
- June 17: “Dr. Strangelove or: How I Learned to Stop Worrying and Love the Bomb”
- June 24: “Lee Daniels’ The Butler”
- July 1: “Legally Blonde 2: Red, White & Blonde”
- July 8: “Clear and Present Danger”
