National Park Service Recognizes Golden Triangle with Top Award for Support and Innovative Programming

WASHINGTON, D.C.–Sept. 15, 2015–The Golden Triangle Business Improvement District and Executive Director Leona Agouridis were honored to receive a 2015 Director’s Partnership Award from the National Park Service.

The news of the award was acknowledged this morning during the BID’s annual meeting. The Park Service’s Director’s Partnership Award recognizes outstanding achievements carried out by national park partners.

NPS stated that the BID was deserving of this recognition because it “makes it easy for the residents, employees, and visitors living, working and playing in the Golden Triangle, located in the D.C. business district and encompassing six national parks, to ‘Escape the Indoors.’ The Golden Triangle BID has invested….in park maintenance, beautification, and landscaping projects, engaged community artists in the design and installation of public art and lighting projects, and initiated programs, including Pilates, ‘Farragut Fridays’ (employee picnic/work days) and movie nights, all working to create gathering places where people can connect…”

“We value our partnership with the National Park Service and thank NPS for recognizing us in this way. We think of the six beautiful parks here in the central business district as crown jewels. They not only beautify the city but also create a sense of place and community. We look forward to continuing to work with NPS to set the bar higher in years to come and to set a new standard for urban park engagement through more and better events and activities,” says Agouridis.
