Tiny Jewel Box Expansion Cements Growth on Connecticut Avenue

WASHINGTON, D.C. — Nov. 23, 2015 — The Tiny Jewel Box – jeweler to U.S. presidents, newly engaged couples, and visitors from all over the world since 1930 – has expanded its storefront, cementing a growth in the retail presence on two central blocks of Connecticut Avenue in downtown DC. Tiny Jewel Box has expanded its existing location into a total of 8,000 square feet of retail space; the street-level retail runs from the store’s long-time Connecticut Avenue base and wraps around an iconic corner onto M Street.

“We could have gone anywhere in the city, but we decided to stick with Connecticut Avenue. This is the perfect location for us because it offers us the exact right fit for visibility, prestige, and foot traffic,” says Jim Rosenheim, chairman, Tiny Jewel Box.

2 blocks conn aveIn one year, these two blocks have become the core of retail growth in the neighborhood, featuring everything from established retailers to innovative restaurant concepts. Near Tiny Jewel Box on Connecticut Avenue, CorePower Yoga and Cava Grill are finalizing construction and plan to open soon. Francesca’s and The Little Beet opened within the last 2 months, while H&M, &pizza, and PURE Aveda all opened within the last year. Brooks Brothers completely remodeled their store last year, Gap recently renewed their lease, and T-Mobile moved within the BID, all showing continued investment in the neighborhood.

“Tiny Jewel Box’s expansion, in such an iconic building, is a real attention-getter. This is a local, three-generation retailer that is internationally known and highly respected for its contributions to the jewelry industry. This expansion shows the on-going strength of retail in this neighborhood—retailers are putting down or expanding roots because they see the mix of professionals and nearby residents…it’s a winning location,” says Leona Agouridis, executive director, Golden Triangle Business Improvement District.
