No Spectators: Beyond the Renwick

Displayed from March 2018 through December 2018

A groundbreaking collaboration between the Golden Triangle Business Improvement District (BID) and the Smithsonian American Art Museum’s Renwick Gallery – entitled No Spectators: Beyond the Renwick – activated Washington, DC’s central business district with six public art installations from March through December 2018. The unique partnership marked the first time the Renwick Gallery expanded beyond its walls to show artwork along the streets and parks within the surrounding Golden Triangle neighborhood.

The project was an outdoor extension of the Renwick Gallery’s museum-wide exhibition No Spectators: The Art of Burning Man which featured large-scale, immersive artworks that are the hallmark of the annual celebration in Nevada’s Black Rock Desert, an influential phenomenon in contemporary art and culture. No Spectators: Beyond the Renwick, supported by Lyft, was on view in the Golden Triangle from March 30 through December 2018, with the Renwick exhibition on display through January 21, 2019.  View the full press release online.
