Drumroll, please…. D.C.’S Golden Triangle Announces Tree Box Design Competition Winners

WASHINGTON, D.C.—June 24, 2016—The Golden Triangle Business Improvement District has finished tallying the public’s votes for its Golden Streets tree box competition, as well as the choices of its expert panel.

Golden Streets is an annual, ongoing effort to beautify the Golden Triangle neighborhood and enhance street sustainability. Twenty-six buildings across the BID participated in a tree box design competition.

More than 1,300 voted online and picked the “Stars and Stripes Forever” design at 1801 K Street NW by the property management team at Jones Lang LaSalle.

The display spans half a city block with tree boxes designed to look like the American flag – just in time for the fourth of July.

The “Fan Favorite” awardee will also enjoy an ice cream social for all of its tenants.

In addition, the expert judges spent Thursday reviewing and deliberating about the entries. The judges were: Alex Dencker and James Gagliardi, horticulturists, Smithsonian Institution; Kathryn Jentz; editor, publisher, Washington Gardener Magazine; Ahmed Hassan, former TV host of HGTV’s “Yard Crashers;” and Meaghan Mooney, WUSA 9 lifestyle reporter and host of “Great Day Washington.”

“The buildings didn’t hold back when they created designs that would attract the attention of visitors and workers. Washington is so beautiful and we are excited that they are committed to taking downtown to the next level,” said Leona Agouridis, executive director, Golden Triangle BID. “In the
Golden Triangle, downtown workers, visitors, and residents get to experience so much of what the District has to offer.”

Is an added element, Hassan will be hosting an urban gardening demonstration at the Golden Triangle’s Farragut Fridays on June 24, from 12–2 p.m., in Farragut Square Park at 17th Street and Connecticut Avenue NW.
