WASHINGTON, D.C. (October 14, 2025)— An internationally acclaimed Australian art gallery is bringing an elevated cultural experience to DC this October. Michael Reid Sydney + Berlin is staging a major pop-up exhibition titled The Stars Before Us All at 1000 Connecticut Ave NW as part of Art Ave in the Golden Triangle Business Improvement District (BID).
The Gallery features established contemporary Australian artists and opens to the public on Oct. 15. Visiting hours are 12:00 PM to 6:00 PM daily, Monday through Saturday, beginning Wednesday, Oct. 15, and continuing through Nov. 10.
A public opening reception will be held on Saturday, Oct. 18, from 3:00–5:00 PM, inviting the Washington arts community, collectors, visitors, and District residents to experience contemporary Australian art in an intimate setting.
“This exhibition marks a major milestone — not just for our gallery, but for Australian art more broadly,” said Michael Reid gallery owner Toby Meagher. “To present these extraordinary First Nations artists in Washington D.C., alongside a landmark National Gallery of Victoria touring exhibition, underscores the growing global significance of Indigenous voices in contemporary art.”
In Australia, First Nations refers to Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander people, the first peoples of Australia. The art in this exhibition represents several contemporary artistic practices of Indigenous Australians and their unique cultural practices and beliefs, some dating as far back as 65,000 years. The Embassy of Australia supports this pop-up exhibition by Michael Reid Sydney + Berlin to bring more Australian art and culture to the U.S. The Golden Triangle pop-up is intended to overlap with the National Gallery of Victoria’s touring exhibition The Stars We Do Not See on display at the National Gallery of Art.
The Michael Reid pop-up gallery in the Golden Triangle is the latest addition to Art Ave, an immersive art experience that includes 13 large, outdoor sculptures and window artworks spanning three blocks from Lafayette Park, through iconic Farragut Square and along the 1000 block of Connecticut Avenue NW. Art Ave is presented by the Golden Triangle BID, funded by the DC Office of Planning’s Streets for People grant program, and will remain on display through January 2026.
“We are thrilled to welcome Michael Reid Gallery to Art Ave in the Golden Triangle,” said Leona Agouridis President of the Golden Triangle BID. “The Stars Before Us All offers a rare opportunity for Washingtonians to engage with Indigenous Australian art in a space that merges global culture with our neighborhood’s expansive public art.”
The Stars Before Us All brings the next chapter of First Nations art to the global stage. The commercial exhibition features both practicing First Nations artists and key historical works, offering District audiences a rare opportunity to engage directly with artists whose voices are contemporary, powerful, and grounded in one of the World’s oldest living culturals.
Michael Reid Sydney + Berlin represents established contemporary Australian and New Zealand artists across five gallery locations and multiple bespoke online platforms. With permanent spaces in Sydney and Berlin, the gallery presents curated solo and group exhibitions and participates in leading international art fairs.
