The Golden Triangle BID Adapts Event and Activation Projects in Order to Support Businesses and the Community in the Central Business District

WASHINGTON, D.C. (April 16, 2020) –The Golden Triangle Business Improvement District (BID) is adapting its events calendar and neighborhood activations to focus on supporting businesses and the community in the Golden Triangle BID, in light of the impact of the COVID-19 crisis on the greater Washington economy. The Golden Triangle BID will not host its usual summer lineup of more than 100 outdoor summer events including fitness classes, movies and other outdoor activations and will postpone public space and streetscape projects.

“The Golden Triangle BID is known for its longstanding success in enhancing the beauty of the neighborhood, offering best in class events and bringing museum-quality art to the Central Business District for all to enjoy and appreciate,” said Leona Agouridis, Executive Director of the Golden Triangle BID. “While we are disappointed that we must scale back through the summer, we look forward to hosting our popular events including TriFit, Golden Cinema, Outdoor Office, and Golden Streets in the future.”

Since the start of the COVID-19 crisis, the BID has been working closely with its members connecting them with resources and information and serving as a key liaison to many city and federal agencies. With its board, the BID is intently focused on its core mission so it can implement new initiatives that strengthen and support its members in today’s unprecedented business environment.

Events and activations that will not be held this summer include:

  • TriFit: a free outdoor fitness program.
  • Farragut Fridays: the BID’s signature summer event featuring Outdoor Office, Picnic in the Park, and pop up events.
  • Golden Cinema: a free outdoor movie series.
  • Golden Streets: a landscaping design contest for buildings located in the central business district.

The Golden Triangle will offer a free, virtual fitness class hosted by a top, certified instructor on the BID’s website and social media channels starting on May 5 — the day on which the Golden Triangle summer event season would have kicked-off.

Although the BID is quieter given the number of people teleworking, there are still numerous restaurants, medical offices and essential places that are open for business. Golden Triangle Ambassadors continue to empty trash cans and to clean streets. Since the onset of the COVID-19 public health emergency, they have also been disinfecting trash cans, ash urns, newspaper boxes, bike racks and more to keep Washington’s central business district extra clean. The Ambassadors also provide a very important presence on the streets helping to keep the neighborhood safe.

To keep themselves safe during this COVID-19 crisis, shift schedules for the Ambassadors have been modified, roll calls are conducted outside with a minimum of six feet between each person.
