Home > Newsroom > Global Marketplace, Livable Community, Engaging Destinations: Change Underway in the Golden Triangle BID Signals Bright Future for an Evolving Neighborhood
Washington, DC, – October 29, 2026 — Today, at the Downtown Defined event hosted by Mayor Muriel Bowser and the Office of the Deputy Mayor for Planning and Economic Development (DMPED), the Golden Triangle Business Improvement District (BID) outlined strategies to make the neighborhood an even more vibrant destination for people to work, live, visit, and spend their time. The BID highlighted key opportunities to continue strengthening its increasing residential community, vibrant global marketplace and business ecosystem, and growing list of cultural and visitor destinations in the heart of the nation’s capital.
“The Golden Triangle has long been an important central connector in Washington, DC,” said Leona Agouridis, President and CEO of the Golden Triangle BID. “This is where global business and institutions meet hospitality, culture, and everyday city life. We’re proud of the progress that’s been made across the neighborhood, transforming downtown for the future. We look forward to continuing to collaborate with District leaders and the community as we build on that momentum for this next chapter.”
Downtown Defined explored issues shaping downtown’s future such as housing, transportation, retail, and hospitality. The event brought together District leaders, businesses, and community stakeholders to explore downtown’s ongoing evolution and opportunities to create more vibrant, mixed-use neighborhoods.
From the White House to Dupont Circle, the Golden Triangle is home to global institutions, leading businesses, restaurants, cultural attractions, and public spaces. Through its placemaking and economic development work, the BID is helping strengthen these connections and support the neighborhood today while positioning it for continued growth. The BID’s strategies shared at the event explore creative approaches to redevelopment and how multiple properties and blocks can work together to create a more mixed-use downtown.
With a strong foundation of world-class workplaces, cultural destinations, and public spaces; and a growing mix of housing, hospitality, and neighborhood experiences, the Golden Triangle is well-positioned to build on the change already happening. The BID looks forward to continued collaboration with District leaders, property owners and community partners to reinforce that evolution and advance a shared vision for a vibrant, welcoming, and thriving downtown for years to come.
